It takes a lot to stop Twitter in its tracks. But a single “selfie” — a self portrait taken by Ellen DeGeneres at the Academy Awards and featuring an all-star lineup including Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper — did just that. The image, taken live on television and posted online by Ellen via her Twitter account @TheEllenShow, has clocked 3.4 million retweets and has been favorited nearly 2 million times.
And it is still rising.
To commemorate what has become the most retweeted Tweet of all time, artist Heather Rooney has completed a spectacular drawing in prismacolor pencils. It may not clock up as many views as Ellen’s original tweet, but we think it’s pretty cool all the same! Check out the time lapse of Heather’s drawing here:
